Johannesburg CBD is dotted with buildings that serve as a signpost to the city’s rich architectural history. These treasures are preserved in the midst of the most exciting urban initiates currently underway. Home to a number of corporate headquarters, the city is busy during the day, with the interesting fashion to be found in the Small Street and east end of the inner city. Compromising 30 blocks of fashion district, its public square, Fashion Capital, is home to the world’s only permanent public space-style catwalk and is the headquarters of Fashion District Institute (FDI).
Tourist attractions include the view from the top of the Carlton Centre, which is one of the tallest building in Africa and the historic Main Street. East of the CBD is home to the fabulous Arts on Main and Main Street Life centres in the mixed-use cultural and lifestyle hub known as the Maboneng Precinct. Close by is the Ellis Park complex, featuring one of the country’s largest sports stadiums. The suburbs surrounding the central node include Network and Braamfontein, Fordsburg, Melville and Milpark, the historic ridges of Westcliff and Parktown, the “Parks”, Rosebank, Greenside, Cyrildene and Kensington.
