Workers Museum

Workers Museum

The Workers’ Museum in Newtown, Johannesburg, offers a powerful and evocative portrayal of the experiences of migrant workers in South Africa. Housed in a historic migrant labor compound, the museum preserves the harsh realities of life under the oppressive labour system, showcasing original dormitories, concrete bunk beds and punishment rooms. Through exhibits, photographs and personal accounts, visitors gain insight into the struggles, resilience and contributions of the workers who helped shape Johannesburg’s industrial growth.
