Synonymous with ghouls and goblins, zombies and the waking of the city’s most hair-raising citizens, October sees a number of creepy crawly ways to celebrate the month of Halloween in Joburg. While Halloween is not traditionally celebrated in South Africa, each year the city notes a growing number of Johannesburg based Halloween events to thrill and shrill its residents.
Halloween is an annual holiday more commonly observed in the United States and the United Kingdom. Having originally evolved from ceremonies hosted on the 31st of October to ward off ghosts by the Celtics ahead of harvesting season, to the day after celebrations honouring All Saints Day on the 1st of November and even observed by Mexican communities as The Day of the Dead or Día de Muertos on the 2nd of November, one thing’s for sure, a ton of fun is to be had as the month slithers and slinks its way to the end.
To follow see a few of our favourite Halloween events in Johannesburg taking placed in the city in October.
